The first OPEN COFFEE KOCHI…

“Imagine it more as a big open lounge where people come and go, talk to others in their industry, showcase demo’s of what they are working on, save the world, and ultimately maybe get some work done and run a few small meetings.”

Following up the great success that our Dutch colleagues from Bridge Holland have achieved when they started their first OPEN COFFEE in Hoorn, The Netherlands, Bridge India is now organizing the first OPEN COFFEE KOCHI.

Press release: With first network meeting, already 100 participants

Open Coffee Hoorn is a popular club

Zwaag – ‘the visitors came from all corners and holes’ laughs Maikel Kok. The initiator of the Hoorn department of the Open Coffee Club was surprised by the overwhelming amount of interest for the first network event.

The guests entered the foyer of the theater ‘Het Park’ from different entrances. ‘Little before 9:30 am, we were with 4 people. Here we go I thought. A little later it was completely full. I expect it to become even more crowded, because the reactions were very positive’.

With the first meeting, on the last Friday in january, there were about hundred people.   (more…)

New terminology in offshore outsourcing – Part 2

A few weeks ago I wrote an article about the terminology we use in the offshore outsourcing landscape.

I have posted the question in some groups and the Q&A in linkedin and on our blog; this generated a lot of new insights and terms. In this part 2 I list the reactions that we received. I still didn’t find one catchy term that could differentiate our industry from all others in the world though. I hope that some people will share more terms that come up after reading the outcome here.

I will summarize a few of the authors here who gave some definitions, because I think those can give us a base to explore the new terms.

Bruce Lee on Software Development

Before his untimely death in 1973, Bruce Lee managed to shake up the martial arts world with his theories of combat and training. Why? Because he felt – much to the chagrin of his peers – that the traditional martial arts were too rigid and formalistic to be practical when applied in an actual fight.

Lee referred to this rigidity in the martial arts as a “classical mess” that wasted time and energy. His real concern was that concentrating on a specific style as the only way of fighting prevented someone from becoming a truly capable fighter. This is because focusing solely on any one style of fighting restricts your options. (more…)
