5 Ingredigents for that perfect project

Experience being the best teacher, a few things I have learnt to be the basic ingredients of a perfect project:

Get your recipe right :

If you are blessed with a crisp and detailed project requirement , do not take it for granted. Read through it twice , thrice , until you have each requirement etched in your mind.

A single word you miss might be a very important feature of the project.

Take time to understand what your client really needs.  And of course ,  the golden words –“When in doubt – Ask” .

Checklist your recipe items :

Make sure you have everything required to plunge into the development.

Some requirements could be a technology you have not used. Take time to google up and stock your documents for  reference in the course of the project.

Trust me. This could buy you that extra time!

Calculate the preparation time :

Slice out each and every requirement and mark an estimated time.

If it’s a new technology and you need that extra time, add it and mark it so.  Remember honesty pays off here.

Add that precious time for a good testing . A good testing before handing it out to the client, cuts the project delivery time into half..

Compare the finished product with the recipe again:

Double check each and every requirement again and check off things that are done.

You would surprised at the number of minute details you missed.

Be a critic during the testing period:

Be a ruthless critic when it comes to testing your product  before delivery. Its natural for a developer to go soft when it comes to putting their product to the test.

Resist that.

Deliver your project and sit back with a smile.
